Calypso St. Barth has long been the go to brand for quietly cool, timeless pieces for women who don’t have to try too hard. Comfortable, yet flattering, it’s often the first piece reached for in closets everywhere. Now, with a little extra zip, we are back.
It is important that the Calypso brand is special in its development process and fabrication. It is vital that each garment captures a special feeling. There is a difference between machine and hand embroidered style. That human craft is what we aim to capture at Calypso. Utilizing hand beading, hand embroidery, hand appliqué, and block printing, even with hand crocheted buttons - we truly lean into the craftsmanship that can be felt within each garment.
Women founded factories
Factories are typically owned and run by men, especially in other countries. At Calypso we work only in women founded and women run factories; this is a bit of an anomaly in India and even in America.
Made in New-York
As a New York based brand, we feel passionately about supporting our local economy by producing collections in the garment district of New York City.
Made in India
India has long been known to produce the best hand made embellishments. It is with great pleasure that we produce our signature, ornate styles in India.
Commitment to Sustainability
At Calypso, we use sustainable fabrics whenever possible. Our swim line is made with Econyl which is a regenerated nylon from ocean plastic. We also utilize dead stock fabrics to minimize waste and CO2 emissions. We use organic fibers whenever possible and we can actually trace our yarns back to the farm where the materials were sourced. We honor a "less is more" policy in our packaging - Craft Mailers, canvas printed hang tags, and reusable fabric bags instead of plastics. Our commitment to sustainability is a never ending work in progress.
